10 Tips for Dealing With Anxiety

10 Tips for Dealing With Anxiety Without Medication

Dealing With Anxiety

Dealing with anxiety can seem overwhelming without a plan of action. In extreme situations, some people need to treat their anxiety with medication. But there are also other ways of dealing with anxiety that can be effective for most people. If left unaddressed, anxiety can become crippling, so it is imperative to confront your anxiety using efficacious methods with provable results.

Almost everyone has some anxiety, but few actively do anything to relieve our anxiety and stress. Learn how you can easily do things to help you avoid anxiety and its corresponding physiological responses and incorporate these strategies into your everyday routines.

Take these steps to feel more relaxed:

  1. Eat breakfast. Some studies show that a substantial breakfast with high protein and fat reduces the level of anxiety experienced throughout the day. If you are one of those who skips breakfast, it might make your anxiety worse.

  2. Eat well. Eating well means eating natural foods. Processed foods have a variety of chemicals and other artificial ingredients that affect many people in negative ways. Cleaning up your diet can profoundly impact anxiety for many people.

  3. Take a short walk. A short walk can be a great way to clear your head and shake off some nervous energy.

  4. Exercise daily. Daily exercise isn’t the easiest habit to instill but isn’t brutally challenging either. Exercise is an excellent way of managing anxiety without medication. An excellent anti-anxiety workout will leave you feeling like you put some work in but not exhaust you. How you get this exercise is entirely up to you.

  5. Focus on your environment. You can’t feel anxious if you’re not thinking about something that makes you anxious. You’re inside your head when you’re anxious. Focusing on the sights and sounds around you is one way to focus on something tangible rather than your thoughts.

  6. Notice your body’s feelings. Instead of focusing on how anxious you are, dispassionately notice the feelings you have in your body. Notice how your heart beats, your hands sweaty, and your stomach is nauseous.

    1. Pretend you’re a scientist and investigate all of the physical sensations you’re experiencing. Stick with them until they dissipate, taking less time than you think.

  1. Breathe. Take some deep, relaxed breaths. Breathing in a controlled way will reign in your anxiety symptoms. It’s a great way to slow your heart rate and feel better overall. Even better is to focus on the sensation of the air moving in and out of your body, too.

  2. Sleep. Everyone feels frazzled if they don’t get enough sleep. Getting sufficient sleep regularly is essential if you regularly feel anxious. Your brain simply doesn’t function optimally if it doesn’t get the rest it needs.

  3. Address the issues in your life that create stress. Eliminate as many stressors as you can. Whether it’s an unreliable car, an obnoxious neighbor, a job you despise, or a big stain on your living room carpet. Stress is an additive. Those more minor stressors can add up.

  4. Talk to someone supportive. A supportive friend is a true blessing. Knowing that you’re not alone can significantly reduce the anxiety you feel.

If your anxiety is overwhelming, see your doctor. If your anxiety is manageable but making you unhappy, there are plenty of things you can try to bring your anxious events down to a more reasonable level.

Give some of the above ideas a try. You are sure to find something that helps significantly without the cost and potential side effects of a pill. You have nothing to lose — except some anxiety!

Fix Your Mind! Stop Operating from a Broken Mindset!

Fix Your Mind! Stop Operating from a Broken Mindset! To Change Your Life, You Must Change Your Thinking.

Fix Your Mind!

Fix your mind and the rest will follow — so to speak. If you want to see different results and achieve things beyond what you have experienced in the past, you will have to change the way you think—you will have to change your mind. Now, this sounds simple enough on the surface, but why do so few accomplish it if it is so simple? The challenge is that the human mind is exponentially more complicated than most people imagine.

The decision to change because you are not happy with something usually originates in the conscious mind; however, the subconscious governs 96 percent of your behavior. So, how do you permutate your conscious desires into subconscious mental constructs executed through the subconscious mind? That is the million-dollar question.

Your subconscious mind is the culmination of years of experiences you interpret and categorize over time. The subconscious constantly consults these memories to form beliefs, make decisions, and govern habitual behavior. You are governed by the beliefs you hold at a subconscious level.

Your subconscious controls 96 percent of your life. That means that 96 percent of your life outcomes result from the redundancy of the present mindset. You cannot change your present reality without transforming your current perspective or way of thinking.

Your conscious mind controls about 3-4% percent of your reality, which is why you cannot will yourself into new results and outcomes. Belief, itself, is a construct, and like all other constructs, can be manipulated and changed through patterns of redundant engagement. I help my clients transform their limiting beliefs effectively and efficiently to produce lasting results.

You are currently operating on the beliefs anchored by experience from your past. Your past becomes familiar as you relive it incessantly. The more you repeat the same thought driven by the same beliefs; your familiar past eventually becomes your predictable future. Most people live very predictable lives because they are operating out of a broken mindset connected to their familiar past.

By the time you reach age 35, 96 percent of who you are is a memorized set of behaviors, emotional reactions, hardwired attitudes, unconscious habits, beliefs, and perceptions that function like a computer program. Simply put, this hardwired computer system, on autopilot, guides your life.

See, our mindset is to us as water is to a fish — it is so ubiquitous it ceases to exist; it is as if we don’t even realize or recognize its presence. Yet, our mindset controls everything. Our inability to understand how our mindset controls us stops us from making the changes we must make to change our lives for the better. It prevents us from becoming who we desire to be. Your current belief system governs all aspects of your behavior, subsequently controlling your outcomes in life. This powerful reality is why positive thinking alone will not produce your desired results.

Our mindset reflects our belief system, which is so ever-present, so ingrained into the fabric of who we are and how we process and perceive data that we don’t even notice its influence. The subconscious mind produces more than 70,000 thoughts per day—most of which you are entirely unaware of on a conscious level. Yet, these thoughts are a part of who you are and influence your life.

To take your conscious desires and create the subconscious mindset necessary to make them a reality, you must learn to control and manage your analytical mind, which separates the conscious mind from the subconscious. The analytical mind consults the subconscious beliefs to determine if what the conscious mind wants is possible.

Transforming the subconscious mind begins with quieting the analytical mind, so it does not interrupt or intercept the new data you upload into the subconscious mind.

I teach my clients how to effectively manage their analytical minds to break free of old limiting beliefs to create new empowering beliefs.

The good news is that no matter how deeply ingrained those old limiting beliefs may be, you can effectively extract and replace them with more empowering beliefs. When I work with my clients in a one-on-one capacity, I walk them through quieting the analytical mind and uploading new beliefs and ideas into the subconscious.

I understand that not everybody can work with me in a one-on-one capacity, so I created Crushing Limiting Beliefs — a comprehensive course designed to help you eliminate the beliefs that have been holding you back. You have everything you need to change your life forever. Change starts here! Change starts today!

8 Common Habits of Unproductive People

8 Common Habits of Unproductive People ~ Do you have any of these bad habits holding you back?

8 Common Habits of Unproductive People

Groups of people that have similar results have similar habits. Thin people have similar habits. Overweight people have similar habits. Productive people tend to have habits of thoughts and behaviors in common. Likewise, unsuccessful people have several patterns of behavior in common, too. If you’re struggling with your productivity, this article is for you.

While we’re all capable of doing some extraordinary things from time to time, it’s the things we do each and every day that have the most significant influence on our results in life. You simply need a different set of habits if you want to be more productive.

For your best results, avoid these habits of unsuccessful people:

  1. Failing to learn. People fail to become more productive if they fail to learn and develop. Try to be the best at what you do. Learn from each day. One of the ways I ensure that I go to bed a better person than the one who woke that morning is to find ways to ensure that I grow intentionally by learning something new. Additionally, learning new things triggers the brain and mind to expand its performance capacity.

    1. Read a book, research articles on the internet, or watch a video on productivity tips. You’ll likely learn something that will help you to be more productive. Even in reviewing old material, you will find something you missed the first time around.

    1. Productive people are constantly learning things that will allow them to be more productive and effective in their endeavors.

  2. Giving in to distractions. We have more distractions than ever before. There are a lot of distractions that are far more interesting than anything you need to do. If it does not add measurable value, stay away from it. You have 86,400 seconds in each day. How you use those seconds will literally determine your destinty.

    1. Focus on what you’re supposed to be doing.

    1. Remove as many distractions from the area as possible—decrease clutter in your workspace and your mind.

    1. Plan time to engage in your distractions. It’s easier to avoid distractions if you know that you can engage in them later. It is about prioritizing your day to ensure what matters most gets attention first.

  1. A lack of emphasis on taking action. Unproductive people often like to plan and learn. Some people love the strategic side of things. However, these same people have a lot less interest in taking action. Planning has its place. Learning is great. Eventually, though, things have to get done if productivity is essential (and it is). You not only have to be active but proactive. Planning and strategizing mean absolutely nothing without practical and consistent application.

  2. Failing to make a plan for the day. Unproductive people often don’t know what to do. They don’t have a clear vision or strategy for moving through their day. So, they become mentally bogged down and become increasingly frustrated as the day progresses. Have a plan for the day, the week, or even just the next few hours. Make a plan and follow it until you’re done! Having a solid workable plan will reduce empty motion and wasted time.

  3. Majoring in minor things. Many productive people are quite busy and even look engaged to others. But, being busy and being productive isn’t the same thing.

    1. Focus on the most effective course of action.

    1. Avoid activities that don’t provide significant results for the amount of time required.

  1. Giving up. You can’t be productive if you give up too soon. Productivity is about what you do, how well you do it, how fast you do it, and how much time you spend doing it. You can’t get a lot done if you don’t put in the time. Finish the task at hand as quickly as possible at the highest possible quality level.

  2. Worrying. It’s okay to have concerns and then address those concerns. However, worrying is an unproductive habit. It wastes time and makes you less effective. Studies reveal that 40-60 percent of what we worry about never happens. Plus, worrying about things that you have no power to impact accomplishes nothing. If you can change it, focus on changing it and abandon the propensity to worry.

    1. Consider the positive things you’ve accomplished by worrying. Write them all down. How many did you identify? Not many, if any at all.

  3. Procrastination. You can’t get anything accomplished if you never even get started. Procrastination is a productivity killer. I often tell my clients that procrastination is the thief of time. I also believe that procrastination is a form of arrogance that is disrespectful to time—putting off things you can do today while postulating that tomorrow will offer the same opportunity to complete those tasks.

    1. If you must procrastinate, at least use the time to do something else that’s productive. Going for a run is a better way of procrastinating than eating a hot fudge sundae. I personally prefer getting the tasks done—no excuses!

We all have the same amount of time each day. The most productive people are also the most successful. If you have big goals and are effective in working toward those goals, you’re going to be a highly successful person.

Eliminate the habits that reduce your productivity, and you’ll be in the best position to start getting more things done. You’ll be surprised by how much you can accomplish!

You Are Built for This!

You Are Built for This

You Are Built for This! Your Current Reality Is Simply the Result of What You Chose to Focus On!

You Are Built for This

You are built for this. It is actually very simple; what you focus on is what you will feel. A great deal of our suffering is self-induced. We have trained ourselves to focus on the negative. We have an insatiable appetite for negativity. It has become increasingly easier to complain than to shift our focus and take action.

Yes, everyone has been through a situation where someone wronged them. Some of us have scars that run deep. Here is what I can tell you: The top tier of performers is full of people bearing scars. The scars don’t disqualify you from excelling. If anything they have prepared you to excel.

Here is where the problem lies, you are confusing fault with responsibility. Because what you went through was someone else’s fault, you think it is someone else responsibility to change your condition. Let’s be clear, despite what you have been told; life is not fair. In fact, life can be rather cruel if you don’t learn how to move on your own behalf and make decisions and take actions that benefit you. Your health is your responsibility. Your happiness is your responsibility. Your condition is your responsibility. Someone else may have put you there, but it is your responsibility, and your responsibility alone, to work your way out.

Stop waiting on someone to save you and save yourself. God equipped you with everything you need to overcome every challenge you will ever face. You are built for the battle. Stop looking for a free ride. Invest in yourself, or no one else will.

You are going to be the determining factor in whether or not you make it to your desired destination — not your haters, not your detractors, not bad luck, nor misfortune. If you work on yourself, none of those things can stop you.

The question is: How bad do you want it?

Are you willing to fight for it? Are you prepared to work day and night for it? Are you ready to confront the fear that is pushing against your desires? Are you prepared to go the distance? Are you willing to withstand the vicissitudes of life that are guaranteed to roll into your paradise just when you thought things were finally settling into place?

Secondly, protect your periphery — your circle — from energy vampires that seek to suck the life out of your dreams and desires. There are people out there who have made it their life’s work to tell others why they can’t do something. Protect your energy with every ounce of your being. Energy is the currency of the universe, don’t spend it on things that produce no return.

I told a client just last week that they were not obligated to give space to anyone who had not proven themselves worthy. Your spirit is an energetic presence; thereby, it is highly susceptible to the influence of the energy of others.

For your spirit to produce high vibrational energy on a consistent basis, it has to be free of toxic matter, which means it must be kept pure of low-vibrational influences like jealousy, envy, hatred, anger, bitterness, self-loathing, ungratefulness, and more.

Not everyone in your periphery means you well, and even those who do may lack the capacity to be a positive influence. It is your responsibility to protect your space and monitor those in your spacial and figurative periphery. You must take an inexorable and direct approach to build a pure and powerful circle. ~ Rick Wallace, Ph.D., Psy.D.

Redefining Your Self Concept & Centering In on Your Destiny

Redefining Your Self Concept & Centering In on Your Destiny

Redefining Your Self Concept & Centering In on Your Destiny

Redefining Your Self Concept & Centering In on Your Destiny will open an entirely new world up for you. When you learn how to control your thoughts, there is absolutely nothing in this world that you cannot achieve. Most people walk around their entire life living a life that has been defined by someone else’s opinion of them.

Often, when I work with certain clients at The Visionetics Institute, I literally have to help them redefine their self-concept — how they view themselves in relationship to the world around them. Far too many people live within the confines of boxes that others have placed them in — often responding to names, titles, monikers, and associations that are not conducive to achieving massive success.

If you are a person who consistently finds yourself wanted more but struggling to get past the limited and low expectations that consistently govern your life, then you need to redefine your self-concept, which will completely shift the manner in which you view the world around you.

Your mind is infinitely powerful in what it is able to create, but it is neutral in that capacity until you set the direction you will travel with the beliefs and expectations that you have for your life. If you want something more, if you want something different, then you are going to have to change how you see yourself, which will immediately impact what you think about yourself and the world around you. When effectively reconstruct your self-concept in a manner that explores your power to effectively impact and change the world around you, you will learn that you are never stuck in any given situation. You have the power within you to change it, no matter what it is.

Maybe you are a person that believes that your background is what is holding you back from achieving your dreams and pursuing your passions. You have bought into the idea that because you come from a state of poverty, or you never knew your father or mother, or you struggled with your grades in school that you are trapped in a life of mediocrity and substandard living. But, you could not be further from the truth.

Where you come from does not determine where you are going, you do that. The only thing that your origin has to do with your destiny is that it tells you how far you have to go in order to get there. Where you start in life simply establishes how far you have to go to get where it is you want to go.

When you set your mind that you are going somewhere and know within yourself that it is possible. That commitment, that personal decision to go all-in will literally move the universe to bend to your will. The universe will literally conspire on your behalf to bring you the things that you demand of it no matter how outrageous it may seem to others.

You are truly the author of your destiny and the master of your fate! ~ Rick Wallace, Ph.D., Psy.D.

“Priming” Setting Your Optimal State for Performance in Life!

"Priming" Setting Your Optimal State for Performance in Life!

"Priming" Setting Your Optimal State for Performance in Life!
“Priming” Setting Your Optimal State for Performance in Life!

“Priming” Setting Your Optimal State for Performance in Life!

There is no question that the manner in which you start your day will have a massive impact on your capacity to effectively navigate through the labyrinthine corridors of resistance that everyone must face. Fortunately, there is a way that you can ensure that you are at an optimal state each and every day — priming. In the world of neuro-psychology, priming refers to the techniques used to influence the implicit memory effect of the mind and brain in which exposure to a specific stimulus influences a later response to the same stimulus. This technique can be used in both, positive and negative ways.

While priming can be used to help improve memory, it can also be used to help a person set and sustain a desired state (Total state of existence — mind, soul, body, and spirit)

In the world of neuro-linguistic programming, we discover that the state we are in at any given moment will dictate how we interpret any given situation or event. The lower the state you are in, the more open you will be to the influence of negative situations and the more diminished your capacity to effectively respond to the event will become.

Priming is a practice that is designed to be used at the beginning of the day to help you set your state. When you are in an optimal state, there is no existence of anger, fear, anxiety, worry, bitterness, procrastination or any other negative state of mind. When you are functioning at an optimal state, you are in perfect equilibrium — mind, soul, body, and spirit.

Priming must become a daily ritual — something that you practice daily — in order for it to be consistently effective in your life. The truth is that we are all governed by rituals — the things we do and the things we think about the most. If you want to change your current situation, examine your current rituals and get rid of the ones that are supporting negative behaviors that are not conducive to the goals and desires you secretly aspire to.

You are not being held back due to any exogenous forces that are moving against you, you are living in the reality created by your daily rituals — the rituals that govern your behavior and your thoughts.

Everyone morning when I wake up the priming process begins with me awakening a heart and mind that is centered in gratitude. Gratitude has to be the foundation on which you build or your edifice will consistently crumble when it comes underneath the weight of pressure, difficulty, delay, frustration.

No matter what is going on in your life, there is a reason to be grateful, and once you find that thing for which you are grateful, embrace its meaning to your life. On the foundation, you then build an edifice constructed of positive and unlimited beliefs concerning what you are capable of and what you expect from life. God/The Universe will only meet you at the level of your expectations. If you want more out of life, you must raise your expectations. As Earl Nightingale, Bob Proctor, Zig Ziglar, Jim Rohn, Les Brown, Tony Robbins and others who have come before me have stated, “Life will pay whatever price you demand of it.” The problem is that you are not demanding much.

Instead of exploring your power to change the world around you, you have simply accepted what has been handed to you. Wake up in the morning and tell yourself that you are powerful beyond measure and that you have the capacity to create and sustain new realities by shifting your paradigm to embrace the new reality. Tell yourself that you are built for every challenge that you will face over the course of the day and that nothing you encounter will cause you to become shaken, frenetic, unglued, fearful, anxious or worried. Simply put, you are built for this. You, my friend, are a beast, now it is time to do what beasts do! ~ Rick Wallace, Ph.D., Psy.D.

The Power of Expanded Beliefs ~ Faith in Motion

The Power of Expanded Beliefs ~ Faith in Motion

The Power of Expanded Beliefs ~ Faith in Motion

The Power of Expanded Beliefs ~ Faith in Motion

The Power of Expanded Beliefs ~ Faith in Motion

It is time to reach into the power of expanded beliefs ~ faith in motion moves the universe. For those who have followed me for any length of time, you already know how passionate I am about developing the capacity to manage your thoughts and the beliefs that produce them. It is no secret that your thoughts are the seeds of your destiny, and your thoughts are the fruit of your core beliefs. Therefore, if you want to change your reality, you have to change your core beliefs, which will result in a change of perspective — a shift in paradigms.

While it may sound cliche-ish, you are what you think. Your thoughts are the seeds of your future reality — the seeds of a future harvest. As in physical science, the seed always produces what it is designed to produce. An acorn does not produce an apple, it produces an oak tree, and so, you can never expect a negative or limiting thought to produce a positive and powerful result.

The process of mastering your life begins with creating a paradigm shift that is supported by expanding beliefs that replace limiting beliefs. When have the capacity to create a paradigmatic shift in your life, you will never find yourself perpetually stranded at any point along the continuum of life.

An expanded belief is literally faith in motion. When you possess an authentic faith that underwrites the idea that all things are possible, you possess the capacity to move the universe on your behalf, and I am not speaking in a figurative sense. Everything in the universe is energy and energy responds to energy.

Here is the thing; like attracts like when it comes to the emittance of energy. It is called resonance, and what your energy resonates with is what you will attract. Energy is emitted in frequency and the level of the frequency determines the power of the vibration. The higher the frequency, the higher the vibration.

When you observe people who seem to experience constant success and maintain a positive attitude, they have developed the capacity to manage their thoughts and elevate the frequency that they operate in. Allow me to give you a prime example of energy resonance.

Have you ever seen a show or commercial where an opera singer hit an immensely high note and shatters a class in the room? As a kid growing up, I used to see this all of the time, and I initially did not believe it was possible until I saw it replicated in a science experiment in school. What is actually happening is the sound emitted by the singer has a specific frequency as it moves through the air, and so does the glass (everything in the universe is made of energy, even inanimate objects). If you were to take a tuning rod and tap the glass it would emit a sound, and that sound has a frequency, when the frequency of the singer is the same as the frequency of the glass, the glass resonates with the vibration and absorbs it — because the vibration is so strong it shatters the glass.

This is the same way that the energy emitted by your thoughts will resonate with other energy. Please understand that you can only access and obtain those things that are on the frequency you are currently admitting. If you want different results, you must be willing to change your frequency and that begins with creating a paradigm shift that opens up the possibilities of life in your mind.

I teach people how to create powerful paradigmatic shifts when I work with them one-on-one, and I also created a course that teaches people how to create a paradigm shift in their lives. The key is to invest in yourself to get the results that you are looking for.

You are the one responsible for changing your life, and no one else can do it for you until you become committed to changing. Change starts here! ~ Rick Wallace, Ph.D., Psy.D.

Never Underestimate the Physicality of Your Thoughts

Never Underestimate the Physicality of Your Thoughts

Never Underestimate the Physicality of Your Thoughts

Never Underestimate the Physicality of Your Thoughts

While most people are at least aware of the fact that their thoughts have the power to impact their lives, very few are aware to what extent. I often tell my clients at The Visionetics Institute that their thoughts have a physicality so powerful that they can move the universe.

Thoughts are so much more than mental ideas, they are the seeds of your destiny. Your current reality is the result of past thoughts that have simply manifested themselves in the third-dimension. So it is important to understand that your reality does not begin with what you can see an touch but with what you think. In fact, what you see and touch is the end-result, not the beginning.

Never underestimate the physicality of your thoughts. If you want to change your current reality, you have to change your thoughts and the limiting beliefs that are behind them. Everything in this universe is one form of energy or another. This is not a philosophical idea, it is physics. Everything in this universe is made of atoms and atoms are energy. What we know and understand about energy is the fact that like attracts like. So if you are emitting negative energy you will attract negativity. If you are emitting positive energy, you will attract to yourself positive things. The most consistent you become with your emittance of energy, the more consistent and stable your life will be.

Most people spend most of their time focusing on what they don’t want, never realizing that they are actually attracting that very reality to themselves. The better you become at establishing a clear vision and image of what you want, the more your thoughts will align themselves with your desires — producing the desired result.

Physicists have proven that human thoughts move matter — meaning your thoughts have the ability to shift the world around you in some rather extraordinary ways. So, what are you thinking right now? ~ Rick Wallace, Ph.D., Psy.D.

Purging Your Periphery ~ Building a New Inner-Circle

Purging Your Periphery - Building a New Inner-Circle

Purging Your Periphery ~ Building a New Inner-Circle

Purging Your Periphery - Building a New Inner-Circle

Purging Your Periphery ~ Building a New Inner-Circle

When I work with my clients, there are so many things we have to cover in a relatively short time, but one thing that is constantly inculcated into their minds is the importance of purging their periphery — getting those negative-minded people out of their inner-circle.

Because we are social creatures, those we allow into our inner-circle have an immensely powerful impact on how we think and behave — association brings about assimilation. There are minimal-minded people who love nothing more than whispering the sweet-nothings of negative into the ears of those who aspire to something greater than they are currently experiencing. It seems these people have literally made it their responsibility in life to show everyone why they can’t do something beyond what is considered ordinary or average.

Many times, these minimal-minded naysayers will be those whom you love the most, and they will often have good intentions, but intent becomes irrelevant when you confuse sugar with cyanide when making my coffee. Many times you will be working to improve yourself so that you can be a benefit to the very people that are constantly trying to tell you that you are crazy for trying. You will likely have to temporarily separate yourself from them in order to make the progress you are looking for.

Replace the naysayers with like-minded people who are at least headed in the same direction you are headed in. Also, it will important to include some people who are more advanced in thought and accomplishment that yourself. These are people who you will want to model your behavior and thinking after. Sometimes the behavior that you are modeling will not make sense logically because you have spent a significant part of your life thinking differently and seeing life through the lens of a different paradigm.

To get rid of those limiting beliefs that have served to keep you boxed in for years, you will need to create a paradigm shift — changing the way you view the world, how it impacts you, how you impact it and how you view yourself in general. When you are working to create a paradigm shift, you do not need people around you constantly attempting to reinforce the old paradigm you are breaking free of.

The truth is that the only limitations you have in this life are the ones you accept in your mind. When you are able to create a paradigms shift, you can completely replace those limiting beliefs with powerful beliefs that focus on what’s possible instead of labeling things as impossible.

Your thoughts are the seeds of your destiny — change your thoughts, change your destiny. ~ Rick Wallace, Ph.D., Psy.D.

Read The Internal Book You've Written with Your Life

Read the internal book that you have written with your life. One person who I admire and have a great deal of respect for is David Goggins. Those of you who know me will know why I admire and respect him. He lives life on his terms. One thing that David stresses is the importance of reading that internal book that you have written over the course of your life.

We live in a world that has no shortage of experts and gurus, including your’s truly, and there is no shortage of books and material prepared and presented by these experts. What David Goggins suggest is that more emphasis is placed on reading the book that we have written, and there is so much that can be gained from an experience like this.

There are multitudinous challenges associated with reading books written by others, with of the most emphatic being the proclivity to write off their successes to extraordinary talent, a silver spoon or luck. The truth is that success is not about how much talent you have; it is about how committed you are to go the distance.

If you have followed me for any time you know that one of my favorite quotes is from the movie, “Lawless.” In the movie, one of the younger Bondurant brothers has been beaten within an inch of his life by a crooked cop. His older brother asks him what is he going to do about it and he responds by telling his brother that he is not tough and violent like him. His brother’s response is priceless. He simply replies, “It is not the violence that sets a man apart, it is the distance he is willing to go.”

Toughness is the willingness to go the distance. When you read that internal book, you will find points in your life in which should not have survived or overcome, but you did, it is a reminder that you are built for the battle that you face. Read your book to not only learn what you are doing that you should be doing differently but also read your book to be reminded of the stock you are made of at the core of your existence. Go back in that book and find those moments when you were written off, but somehow you survived.

If you are like me, when you read your book, you will discover that you are not where you would like to be, but you are far more than you are currently giving yourself credit for. This does not mean that you should rest on your laurels, but you should use this knowledge as fuel for you confidence — understanding that you are built for everything that you will face in life. I don’t care how bad it gets, how dark it becomes, how many people turn against you — you are built for it! ~ Rick Wallace, Ph.D., Psy.D.
