“Priming” Setting Your Optimal State for Performance in Life!

There is no question that the manner in which you start your day will have a massive impact on your capacity to effectively navigate through the labyrinthine corridors of resistance that everyone must face. Fortunately, there is a way that you can ensure that you are at an optimal state each and every day — priming. In the world of neuro-psychology, priming refers to the techniques used to influence the implicit memory effect of the mind and brain in which exposure to a specific stimulus influences a later response to the same stimulus. This technique can be used in both, positive and negative ways.

While priming can be used to help improve memory, it can also be used to help a person set and sustain a desired state (Total state of existence — mind, soul, body, and spirit)

In the world of neuro-linguistic programming, we discover that the state we are in at any given moment will dictate how we interpret any given situation or event. The lower the state you are in, the more open you will be to the influence of negative situations and the more diminished your capacity to effectively respond to the event will become.

Priming is a practice that is designed to be used at the beginning of the day to help you set your state. When you are in an optimal state, there is no existence of anger, fear, anxiety, worry, bitterness, procrastination or any other negative state of mind. When you are functioning at an optimal state, you are in perfect equilibrium — mind, soul, body, and spirit.

Priming must become a daily ritual — something that you practice daily — in order for it to be consistently effective in your life. The truth is that we are all governed by rituals — the things we do and the things we think about the most. If you want to change your current situation, examine your current rituals and get rid of the ones that are supporting negative behaviors that are not conducive to the goals and desires you secretly aspire to.

You are not being held back due to any exogenous forces that are moving against you, you are living in the reality created by your daily rituals — the rituals that govern your behavior and your thoughts.

Everyone morning when I wake up the priming process begins with me awakening a heart and mind that is centered in gratitude. Gratitude has to be the foundation on which you build or your edifice will consistently crumble when it comes underneath the weight of pressure, difficulty, delay, frustration.

No matter what is going on in your life, there is a reason to be grateful, and once you find that thing for which you are grateful, embrace its meaning to your life. On the foundation, you then build an edifice constructed of positive and unlimited beliefs concerning what you are capable of and what you expect from life. God/The Universe will only meet you at the level of your expectations. If you want more out of life, you must raise your expectations. As Earl Nightingale, Bob Proctor, Zig Ziglar, Jim Rohn, Les Brown, Tony Robbins and others who have come before me have stated, “Life will pay whatever price you demand of it.” The problem is that you are not demanding much.

Instead of exploring your power to change the world around you, you have simply accepted what has been handed to you. Wake up in the morning and tell yourself that you are powerful beyond measure and that you have the capacity to create and sustain new realities by shifting your paradigm to embrace the new reality. Tell yourself that you are built for every challenge that you will face over the course of the day and that nothing you encounter will cause you to become shaken, frenetic, unglued, fearful, anxious or worried. The Power of Expanded Beliefs ~ Faith in Motion

It is time to reach into the power of expanded beliefs ~ faith in motion moves the universe. For those who have followed me for any length of time, you already know how passionate I am about developing the capacity to manage your thoughts and the beliefs that produce them. It is no secret that your thoughts are the seeds of your destiny, and your thoughts are the fruit of your core beliefs. Therefore, if you want to change your reality, you have to change your core beliefs, which will result in a change of perspective — a shift in paradigms.

While it may sound cliche-ish, you are what you think. Your thoughts are the seeds of your future reality — the seeds of a future harvest. As in physical science, the seed always produces what it is designed to produce. An acorn does not produce an apple, it produces an oak tree, and so, you can never expect a negative or limiting thought to produce a positive and powerful result.

The process of mastering your life begins with creating a paradigm shift that is supported by expanding beliefs that replace limiting beliefs. When have the capacity to create a paradigmatic shift in your life, you will never find yourself perpetually stranded at any point along the continuum of life.

An expanded belief is literally faith in motion. When you possess an authentic faith that underwrites the idea that all things are possible, you possess the capacity to move the universe on your behalf, and I am not speaking in a figurative sense. Everything in the universe is energy and energy responds to energy.

Here is the thing; like attracts like when it comes to the emittance of energy. It is called resonance, and what your energy resonates with is what you will attract. Energy is emitted in frequency and the level of the frequency determines the power of the vibration. The higher the frequency, the higher the vibration.

When you observe people who seem to experience constant success and maintain a positive attitude, they have developed the capacity to manage their thoughts and elevate the frequency that they operate in. Allow me to give you a prime example of energy resonance.

Have you ever seen a show or commercial where an opera singer hit an immensely high note and shatters a class in the room? As a kid growing up, I used to see this all of the time, and I initially did not believe it was possible until I saw it replicated in a science experiment in school. What is actually happening is the sound emitted by the singer has a specific frequency as it moves through the air, and so does the glass (everything in the universe is made of energy, even inanimate objects). If you were to take a tuning rod and tap the glass it would emit a sound, and that sound has a frequency, when the frequency of the singer is the same as the frequency of the glass, the glass resonates with the vibration and absorbs it — because the vibration is so strong it shatters the glass.

This is the same way that the energy emitted by your thoughts will resonate with other energy. Please understand that you can only access and obtain those things that are on the frequency you are currently admitting. If you want different results, you must be willing to change your frequency and that begins with creating a paradigm shift that opens up the possibilities of life in your mind.

Never Underestimate the Physicality of Your Thoughts

While most people are at least aware of the fact that their thoughts have the power to impact their lives, very few are aware to what extent. I often tell my clients at The Visionetics Institute that their thoughts have a physicality so powerful that they can move the universe.

Thoughts are so much more than mental ideas, they are the seeds of your destiny. Your current reality is the result of past thoughts that have simply manifested themselves in the third-dimension. So it is important to understand that your reality does not begin with what you can see an touch but with what you think. In fact, what you see and touch is the end-result, not the beginning.

Never underestimate the physicality of your thoughts. If you want to change your current reality, you have to change your thoughts and the limiting beliefs that are behind them. Everything in this universe is one form of energy or another. This is not a philosophical idea, it is physics. Everything in this universe is made of atoms and atoms are energy. What we know and understand about energy is the fact that like attracts like. So if you are emitting negative energy you will attract negativity. If you are emitting positive energy, you will attract to yourself positive things. The most consistent you become with your emittance of energy, the more consistent and stable your life will be.

Most people spend most of their time focusing on what they don’t want, never realizing that they are actually attracting that very reality to themselves. The better you become at establishing a clear vision and image of what you want, the more your thoughts will align themselves with your desires — producing the desired result.

When I work with my clients, there are so many things we have to cover in a relatively short time, but one thing that is constantly inculcated into their minds is the importance of purging their periphery — getting those negative-minded people out of their inner-circle.

Because we are social creatures, those we allow into our inner-circle have an immensely powerful impact on how we think and behave — association brings about assimilation. There are minimal-minded people who love nothing more than whispering the sweet-nothings of negative into the ears of those who aspire to something greater than they are currently experiencing. It seems these people have literally made it their responsibility in life to show everyone why they can’t do something beyond what is considered ordinary or average.

Many times, these minimal-minded naysayers will be those whom you love the most, and they will often have good intentions, but intent becomes irrelevant when you confuse sugar with cyanide when making my coffee. Many times you will be working to improve yourself so that you can be a benefit to the very people that are constantly trying to tell you that you are crazy for trying. You will likely have to temporarily separate yourself from them in order to make the progress you are looking for.

Replace the naysayers with like-minded people who are at least headed in the same direction you are headed in. Also, it will important to include some people who are more advanced in thought and accomplishment that yourself. These are people who you will want to model your behavior and thinking after. Sometimes the behavior that you are modeling will not make sense logically because you have spent a significant part of your life thinking differently and seeing life through the lens of a different paradigm.

To get rid of those limiting beliefs that have served to keep you boxed in for years, you will need to create a paradigm shift — changing the way you view the world, how it impacts you, how you impact it and how you view yourself in general. When you are working to create a paradigm shift, you do not need people around you constantly attempting to reinforce the old paradigm you are breaking free of.

The truth is that the only limitations you have in this life are the ones you accept in your mind. When you are able to create a paradigms shift, you can completely replace those limiting beliefs with powerful beliefs that focus on what’s possible instead of labeling things as impossible.

Read The Internal Book You've Written with Your Life

Read the internal book that you have written with your life. One person who I admire and have a great deal of respect for is David Goggins. Those of you who know me will know why I admire and respect him. He lives life on his terms. One thing that David stresses is the importance of reading that internal book that you have written over the course of your life.

We live in a world that has no shortage of experts and gurus, including your’s truly, and there is no shortage of books and material prepared and presented by these experts. What David Goggins suggest is that more emphasis is placed on reading the book that we have written, and there is so much that can be gained from an experience like this.

There are multitudinous challenges associated with reading books written by others, with of the most emphatic being the proclivity to write off their successes to extraordinary talent, a silver spoon or luck. The truth is that success is not about how much talent you have; it is about how committed you are to go the distance.

If you have followed me for any time you know that one of my favorite quotes is from the movie, “Lawless.” In the movie, one of the younger Bondurant brothers has been beaten within an inch of his life by a crooked cop. His older brother asks him what is he going to do about it and he responds by telling his brother that he is not tough and violent like him. His brother’s response is priceless. He simply replies, “It is not the violence that sets a man apart, it is the distance he is willing to go.”

Toughness is the willingness to go the distance. When you read that internal book, you will find points in your life in which should not have survived or overcome, but you did, it is a reminder that you are built for the battle that you face. Read your book to not only learn what you are doing that you should be doing differently but also read your book to be reminded of the stock you are made of at the core of your existence. Go back in that book and find those moments when you were written off, but somehow you survived.

If you are like me, when you read your book, you will discover that you are not where you would like to be, but you are far more than you are currently giving yourself credit for. This does not mean that you should rest on your laurels, but you should use this knowledge as fuel for you confidence — understanding that you are built for everything that you will face in life. The one thing I can tell you with great certainty is that life will pay whatever price you demand of it. 3 Synergistic Forces That Produce a Breakthrough

Forces That Produce a Breakthrough

When people come to me searching for answers and solutions in the area of achieving success, there is one question that I hear more than any other — in one form or another. People want to know where does change begin. The simple answer to that question is change begins at the moment of breakthrough. For the purpose of lucidity, allow me to explain what I mean when I say breakthrough. A breakthrough is the point in which a person experiences an epiphany in which those things that were once deemed impossible are suddenly viewed as possible.

Due to the fact that success is viewed and defined differently based on a number of variables, it is important to present a simple definition that can apply to everyone. The most simple, yet solid, definition of success that I have ever seen was rendered by Earl Nightingale. He said that success is the progressive realization of a worthy goal. In other words, when a person is committed to and moving toward a goal they deem worthy, they are successful — meaning that success is experienced prior to reaching the goal. In fact, the journey toward the goal can be as sweet as reaching the goal itself, when you have the right mindset.

Okay, now that we have an understanding of what a breakthrough is, how do we achieve one? There are three essential elements, that when combined, can immensely transform every aspect of your life. The truth is that mastering one can produce significant results, but when you align all three, they will create a synergistic force of change that cannot be denied.



All around the world, people are struggling with any combination of three issues that can result in unbearable pain when not addressed. These points of significance are our bodies, our relationships and our finances. There many of us who struggle with all three. Some people may have the blueprint for saving and building wealth, but they cannot do it to save their lives. Others have read book after book about relationships, yet they still struggle mightily in their own. The same with physical health.

So, what force can be so strong that it can thwart a proven strategy. Let me give you a hint. Tony Robbins often says that success in life is 80 percent psychology and 20 percent mechanics, and I agree with him completely. You can have all the right answers, but if your psychology, the way that you view and interpret your circumstances and situations is off, success will be unlikely. As I stated earlier, there are three dynamic forces that work synergistically to produce massive results in the life of any person, their strategy, their story and their state.

Have you ever met someone that no matter how many times you put the right strategy or answer in front of them, they could find a reason why it wouldn’t work? They will say, “that won’t work because…” They have developed the capacity to find every excuse in the book to fail. They have also developed the capacity to blame everyone except themselves for their current position. After rendering their excuses — I am not smart enough, that only works for the privileged, I don’t have the resources — they will then start to point the finger to place blame for why life is like that for them.

What these people don’t understand is that they have become victims to their own stories. One of the first things that I tell my clients is to remove the word “can’t” from their vocabulary. They are not allowed to use that word or any of its associated terms. When you use the word can’t, you are telling a story, writing a narrative as to why you can’t accomplish something, which is feeding your subconscious with a message that says you can’t. As your subconscious starts to receive and embrace this story, it will influence your behavior to align with this perceived reality.



The strategy is the easy part, but it means absolutely nothing if you are telling the wrong story. If the answer to your dilemma is sitting right in front of you, and you fail to take massive action to correct your problem, there can be only one reason — you have created a set of beliefs concerning this issue, and you have integrated these beliefs into a story of why the solution can’t work, will not work or only works for a certain type of person, other than yourself. This is what is known as limiting beliefs or a limiting story.

This story is so engrained in your psyche that you tell it often, but rarely recognize that you are doing it. There is one thing for certain, massive change requires massive action, and no one will apply massive action to something they do not believe will work. With these types of disempowering stories at the core of your struggles, it is almost guaranteed that you will not produce any efficacious results.

So, how do people change after living for years with a disempowering story. It is simple, the people who make a decision that they are going to get things done decide to take a strategy that has been proven to work, and then they attach a new story to it. They change the narrative. They create a story of empowerment that says that if they commit to a goal and work through the process without quitting, they will achieve it. They tell themselves that if they can conceive something in their minds, believe it, and then pursue it, that the universe will conspire on their behalf to bring them that thing that they desire. They become determined to tell a story that says nothing good will be withheld from them.

The people who decide that they are going to make something happen, no matter what, will no longer look for excuses or reasons that their efforts will not produce what they desire. They believe that as long as they continue to invest themselves in the pursuit of their desires, they will ultimately have them.

Finally, the most important of these three forces is your “state.” State is a term I first heard used by Tony Robbins, and it refers to a person’s state of being or existence at any given moment. He used to call what I call “optimal state, ” the “peak state,” but now he refers to it as a “beautiful state.” Whether you call it optimal, peak, or beautiful, the most desired state is a state of complete harmony and equilibrium with self — physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. The more a person begins to move into states of disequilibrium, the more difficult it becomes to interpret life in a positive way, making it difficult to effectively respond to the challenges and vicissitudes of life.

For example, have you ever been extremely angry at someone, and all of a sudden, everything bad that person had ever done to you comes rushing to the front of your mind? The reason that this happens is that when you enter any state of existence, your brain will switch to a thought pattern that will support that state. This happens when you get awesome news that places you in a state of joy. All of a sudden, everything seems more beautiful and tolerable. Even things that might normally annoy you will be viewed through rose colored lenses. This is the power of “state.” So, you must learn how to control your “state” if you are going to effectively change your story.

This can be challenging because many people’s stories impact their state. What I do with my Elevation & Empowerment clients is teach them how to enter “optimal state” at the beginning of the day. This is done through a process known as priming. Priming is exactly what it sounds like. It is preparing yourself to receive what you want to receive by preparing your mind and emotions to effectively interpret situations in the proper context.

I am a firm believer that the best way to enter into a peak state is to build out from a foundation of gratitude. I have found that it is absolutely impossible to be angry, worry, experience anxiety or any other negative emotion when you have a mindset that is focused on gratitude. So, I teach my clients to start each day focusing on those things that they are grateful for. I also teach them that they should not connect their gratitude or happiness to any expectations, or they will be setting themselves up for failure. Some of the most capricious people are those who live their lives through the emotions they experience based on their expectations.

When it comes to expectations, no one is perfect, so everyone will, at some point, fail to meet your expectations, including yourself. And, if your happiness, joy and peace are connected to those expectations, you will be on an emotional roller coaster.

When you reach optimal state, you will possess the right mindset to rewrite the narrative of your life. Living in “optimal state” provides positive spiritual energy that allows you to consistently function at a high frequency, achieving high vibrations that produce efficacious results — over and over again.

Of course, no one is perfect, and so you will periodically find yourself getting frustrated, angry or fearful, but you must teach yourself to recognize when you are doing this and stop it before the seed of disruption becomes an uncontrollable monster. I have a 90-second rule that I will not be pulled out of optimal state longer than 90-seconds. So, when I get hit by a curve ball, or the vicissitudes of life roll into my paradise, I give myself 90 seconds to recapture my equilibrium.

When you are able to infuse the right strategy, the right story and an optimal state, the synergistic force that you will create will make you unstoppable. Nothing good you desire will be withheld from you. This is where you will discover that life is not happening to you, it is responding to you — meaning that you are completely in control of your destiny. While many people will use the phrase, “you are what you think,” very few actually take the time to truly consider the impact of the their thoughts on a daily basis. Scientists suggest that the average human being processes between 40,000 and 50,000 thoughts per day. What this means is that even when we are not aware of it, our subconscious is at work processing what is known as cognitions — subconscious or unconscious thoughts. It is important to understand that while we may not be aware — at least on a conscious level — of all the thoughts that are being processed by our subconscious, we have the capacity to control the type of thoughts and how they are interpreted.

Actually, there is an epochal amount of truth embedded in the statement “you are what you think,” your thoughts are the seeds of ultimate manifestation. In other words, your thoughts are the staging ground and the catalyst for what you will ultimately become. Whenever clients contact me to be a part of my Visionetics 2020 program, I immediately emphasize the fact that the reason they are where they currently are is because of who they are. You don’t get what you want or wish for out of life; you get what you are. If you don’t have the things that you want out of life, it is because you have not become the person who is capable of obtaining them.

When you determine that it is time for a change in your life, you must begin with changing how you think. Why is changing your thought processes so important? Your thought processes govern your belief system, and your belief system is the conduit through which paradigms are created, and finally, paradigms are the lenses through which we interpret life. So, our thoughts will determine if we view life from the position of a victim or a victor. It will determine whether we see life as happening to us or responding to us.

Changing your thoughts will help develop and change who you are in multitudinous ways. There are two distinctive ways that this happens. Let’s take a quick look at both.

Feeding & Nurturing the Subconscious

The reason that my Elevation and Empowerment course has proven to be so successful is because it uses, as one of its primary components, cognitive enhancement techniques. The cognitive enhancement process takes into consideration that cognitive biases and cognitive distortions can directly impact the social mobility and mental health of an individual. This is one of my areas of expertise. My research and dissertation for my doctorate in psychology was conducted in this area. In fact, my research produced several theories — two of which being Cognitive Bias Syndrome and Collective Dominative Cognitive Bias Syndrome — explaining how both, individuals and groups can develop negative social paradigms that lead to poor decision making and erroneous behavior.

When I encounter a client who is in need of behavioral adjustments, unlike many of my colleagues, I do not start with habitual adjustments — changing behavioral habits at the superficial level. When habitual behavior is addressed at an adumbrated level, the changes are harder to take hold, and the person will usually revert back to the original habits under pressure. Instead, I work on using the conscious mind to influence the subconscious mind, which will subsequently and inherently influence the spirit of the person. Ignoring the spiritual element of our holistic existence is another way that many of my colleagues fall short. We are holistic in our existence — consisting of a body, mind, soul and spirit. What I have discovered is that whatever the subconscious is fed consistently, will, in turn, be fed to the spirit. This particular interaction between the subconscious and the spirit are prodigious.

As the spirit develops in a positive way, as it is being fed positive thoughts and beliefs about the person through the subconscious, it develops the capacity to provide a new and more powerful type of vision. I call this type of vision, spiritual vision. Spiritual vision has the capacity to see beyond what physical vision can see. While a person’s physical sight can only see the facts associated with any particular circumstance or situation, spiritual sight has the capacity to see those things that have not yet manifested themselves within the physical realm, but are just as real as the facts being presented by the current situation. In other words, while losing your job and being behind in mortgage payments and car note payments presents a gloomy outlook, a spirit that has been conditioned to believe that your destiny of greatness, prosperity and success has been set and guaranteed, will interpret the reality of the circumstance as a temporal challenge in which you have the capacity to overcome. In essence, the spirit will disagree with or override the circumstance. This is the power of properly training the subconscious by guarding what it is being fed consistently.

The Reticular Activating System

The truth is that you are creating your future constantly and consistently — each and every day. Your thoughts are literally writing the narrative of your future life. According to Ernest Holmes, “life is a mirror and will reflect back to the thinker what he thinks into it.” Your thoughts are the staging ground and catalyst for the perpetuation of actions, beliefs, feelings, values, goals and dreams. It is important to understand that this is happening regardless of the level of consciousness and awareness you have of the fact that it is taking place.

Basically, the combination of your present moment awareness, conjoined with the future that is created through your thoughts is actually the totality of the aggregate sum of your subconscious programming. This is why it is so important to guard your gates — those openings to your soul — the eyes and ears. What you allow to infiltrate your subconscious on a frequent basis will create an involuntary response in which beliefs will be developed to align with the information received by the subconscious. Finally, in order to maintain sanity, you will naturally perpetuate behavior that is in alignment with the reality created by your subconscious.

To further assist in this adaptation, the human brain is equipped with a mechanism known as the reticular activating system. The reticular activating system can be viewed as a mediator of your future goals and dreams. The RAS functions as a filter between the subconscious and the conscious mind. When your conscious mind perceives an idea or belief, it is passed to the subconscious through the RAS.

Allow me to elucidate what I am attempting to convey here. The RAS is a biological function that takes whatever the conscious is focusing upon or thinking about and transmits it to the subconscious mind where the thought or focus will reproduce itself through physical manifestation at a future date and time. Have you ever had a situation in which you noticed something for the first time — a new car, watch, shirt, etc. — and you decided that you wanted one? Then, all of a sudden, every time you look up you see it. It is not that it started to appear more, it has always been there. The difference is that your thoughts and focus has indicated that you are interested in it, and so the RAS and your subconscious will work to identify it every time it or an opportunity to have it presents itself.

Understanding how the RAS works illuminates the importance of managing your thoughts, ideas and belief systems, because it will reproduce and illuminate what you give gravity to. If you place an emphasis on financial literacy and building wealth, it will continuously identify opportunities for you to do so.

There is so much more to the idea of thought management, but the two concepts presented here will give you, at least, a limited perspicacity of the power of your thoughts to shape your future. You cannot have the things you desire until you become the person who has the capacity to achieve and obtain them. You cannot become that person until you master your thoughts to align with the values, behaviors and habits of the successful person who is capable of having all that you desire.
